We have come across a number of books which may be of interest to readers
who are planning a holiday by rail in 2004. Our favourite is All Aboard!
The Complete North American Train Travel Guide. Written by Jim Loomis, a
train buff who has travelled over 60,000 miles by rail during the past ten
years, the book reveals how to plan your trip, with packing suggestions,
booking procedures, schedules, onboard etiquette, good places for overnight
stopovers, descriptions of scenic rail excursions, route maps, folklore
and history of railroading, safety information, and a professional railroading
glossary.
Other books worth having a look at are two by renowned travel writer Paul
Theroux: - The Old Patagonian Express: By Train Through the Americas and
The Great Railway Bazaar: By Train Through Asia; and Melissa Graham's Trans-Canada
Rail Guide. All are available through http://www.amazon.com.
