The Eastern & Oriental Express is steeped in romance. Its distinctive green and gold carriages are a familiar sight among the paddy fields and temples, bustling cities and wild jungles. Inside it is a haven of comfort, style and luxury.
The air-conditioned carriages are the perfect vantage point from which to survey the world outside. The cabins are cool and spacious, and beautifully designed in high colonial style with rich inlaid woods, antique brass fittings, crisp white sheets and every comfort and convenience.
The service is everything that you would expect, and more. A steward is constantly at hand, to make sure that nothing impedes your enjoyment of the on-board experience. The atmosphere is refined, discreet and utterly civilised, yet also natural and friendly.
As an alternative to your cabin, the open-decked Observation Carriage is a great place to join other guests or to relax alone. The Observation Car is located at the very end of the train. Its interior section is the perfect place to enjoy cocktails amidst a colonial 'veranda' ambience with its teak wood flooring, paneled walls, rattan furniture and potted plants.
One-third of the Observation Car is an outdoor observation area decorated with teakwood. Offering unobstructed views, it is the perfect place to take photographs of the panoramic scenery and experience the sights, sounds and scents of South East Asia.
In the evening enjoy a leisurely cocktail in the Bar Car, before progressing to the opulent Dining Cars where the finest Eurasian cuisine is served, and carefully chosen wine lists awaits your attention.
Chefs on board the Eastern & Oriental Express are internationally renowned for their ability to create a tantalising variety of Eastern and European dishes, using the finest fresh seasonal ingredients. Service equals the world's finest restaurants. Lunch and dinner are served in the two Restaurant Cars, each lavishly decorated with rosewood and elm panelling.
Each morning a breakfast of freshly baked croissants, coffee or tea, juice and fruit is delivered to your compartment and for those passengers wishing to rise early to take advantage of the beautiful scenery, tea and coffee will be served for you in the Observation Car from 7.00am onwards.
E&O chefs can cater for any specific dietry requirements passengers may have, provided you inform us prior to your journey.
Lunch is a leisurely affair while afternoon tea is in true colonial style, with aromatic Earl Grey tea and cakes recalling the simple pleasures of a gracious era.
Then on to dinner in the opulent dining car where sparkling crystal, subdued lighting and French silverware set the scene for delicious Eurasian cuisine finely balanced by our expertly chosen wine list. Finally a cognac in the Bar Car perhaps, while the piano plays softly. At the end of your day relax and socialise with your fellow passengers in the Bar Car and listen to the sounds of the piano from the resident pianist. The bar is open throughout the day and late into the night for the service of cocktails, aperitifs and liqueurs and local entertainment is performed in the evenings.
Enjoy a relaxing and exotic drink such as a Shanghai Express - a delicious cocktail of Bourbon, Amaretto, Southern Comfort, Orange and Lime Juice and Grenadine Syrup.
Travelling in private compartments, passengers on board the Eastern & Oriental Express are attended by Cabin Stewards throughout the journey, and are assured of attentive yet discreet service.
